JAFZA Company Formation

Establish your business in Jebel Ali Free Zone — DP World's flagship free zone and one of Dubai's most established trade, logistics and industrial ecosystems, with direct access to Jebel Ali's port-led commercial infrastructure and facilities ranging from workstations to warehouses, showrooms and industrial land.

JAFZA is particularly powerful when the licence is connected to real operations — international trading, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, distribution, regional headquarters or businesses that need scalable physical infrastructure.

Who JAFZA Suits

When JAFZA Becomes a Strategic Choice

For many companies, JAFZA's value is not the cheapest licence. It is the combination of licensing, location, customs-linked trade infrastructure, industrial capability and space to expand.

Import, Export & Distribution

Strong for international traders, distributors and regional supply-chain businesses moving physical goods through Dubai.

Core strength

Logistics & Freight

JAFZA offers a dedicated logistics licence for approved logistics and supply-chain services, supported by its Jebel Ali location.

Specialist licence

Manufacturing

Industrial businesses can establish production operations with facilities and EHS requirements aligned to manufacturing activity.

Industrial fit

Regional Headquarters

International groups can use JAFZA for subsidiaries or branches alongside offices, distribution facilities and regional operations.

Licence Types

Choose the Licence Around the Actual Operation

JAFZA's current core business-licence offering includes Trading, Service, Industrial and Logistics licences. The activity combination and facility should be designed together.

Trading Licence

For buying and selling physical goods. JAFZA structures trading licences according to activity groups and the number of activities selected.

Service Licence

For businesses whose primary operation is providing services, consultancy or knowledge-based work rather than holding physical inventory.

Industrial Licence

For manufacturing or production. JAFZA requires the production facility and warehouse to be located within the Free Zone and applies EHS oversight.

Logistics Licence

Designed for approved logistics and supply-chain services such as storage, transportation, distribution, forwarding and inventory-related operations.

Activity Groups

JAFZA's Trading Licence Can Scale With the Activity Scope

Unlike a simple “one licence fits all” model, JAFZA's trading licence is structured around activity groups. This matters when a company plans to trade several categories of goods.

Trading — Type 1

JAFZA currently describes Type 1 as allowing a maximum of seven activities within one activity group.

One group

Trading — Type 2

Type 2 currently allows a maximum of twelve activities starting from two activity groups.

Two groups

Trading — Type 3 / General Trading

JAFZA describes Type 3 as unlimited activities starting from three or more groups and classifies this as a General Trading licence.

Broader trading scope
Activity selection matters. The number of activities alone does not determine the correct licence. Their groups, compatibility, regulated status, goods involved and facility requirements should be reviewed before application.
Company Formation

Multiple Legal Structures for Different Investors

JAFZA supports several formation types, allowing individual investors, groups and existing companies to choose a structure that fits ownership and expansion plans.

FZE

Free Zone Establishment structure for eligible single-shareholder ownership.

FZCo

Free Zone Company structure designed for multiple shareholders.

Branch

An existing company can establish a JAFZA branch while the parent entity remains in existence.

Public Listed Company

JAFZA includes a public-listed-company formation route within its current formation framework.

Offshore

JAFZA also has an offshore company regime, which is structurally different from an operating Free Zone company and should not be treated as the same product.

Facilities

One of JAFZA's Biggest Advantages: Space for Real Operations

Every new JAFZA company formation requires a leased facility. JAFZA's property portfolio allows the facility to be matched to the activity rather than forcing every business into the same workspace model.

Co-working & Workstations

Lean workspace options for eligible businesses that do not require a large dedicated operational facility.

Office Space

Dedicated office solutions for professional teams, headquarters, sales operations and regional management functions.

Warehouses & Showrooms

Facilities for storage, distribution, trading and businesses that require a physical goods or customer-facing operational footprint.

Land & Custom Development

Plots and customised development options support larger industrial, logistics and specialised operational projects.

Facility and licence are connected. For example, JAFZA states that an Industrial Licence requires the production facility and warehouse inside the Free Zone. EHS requirements also apply to specified facility types.
Trade & Customs Ecosystem

Where JAFZA Differs From a Licence-Only Free Zone

JAFZA is DP World's flagship Free Zone and describes itself as the Middle East's largest customs-bonded zone. Its value is strongest for companies whose business depends on physical trade and supply chains.

Port-Led Connectivity

JAFZA's location at Jebel Ali places businesses inside a major global maritime and logistics ecosystem.

Dubai Trade Platform

Dubai Trade provides a single-window digital channel connecting services from entities including JAFZA, DP World and Dubai Customs.

Integrated Government Network

JAFZA's ecosystem connects companies with government and commercial service providers relevant to customs, immigration, licensing and operations.

Banking & Compliance

Strong Commercial Substance Can Support the Banking Story

A JAFZA address, warehouse or established trading operation can provide a clear commercial rationale, but no Free Zone can guarantee a bank account. Banks independently assess every applicant.

Demonstrate the Trade Flow

Trading businesses should be ready to explain suppliers, customers, goods, shipment routes, expected turnover and payment flows.

AML, UBO & Source of Funds

Shareholder background, UBO information, source of wealth and funds, counterparties and transaction geography remain important to banking and compliance.

Sensitive Activities Need More

Precious metals, petrochemicals, certain commodities and other higher-risk sectors can involve enhanced regulatory, AML, banking and documentation requirements.

Corporate Tax & VAT

JAFZA's Free Zone Status Must Be Read With the UAE Tax Rules

A JAFZA company is not automatically exempt from UAE Corporate Tax. The 0% Free Zone rate is available on Qualifying Income only where the company meets the Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions.

0% on Qualifying Income

A Qualifying Free Zone Person can benefit from 0% Corporate Tax on Qualifying Income where the statutory conditions are satisfied.

QFZP Conditions

Adequate UAE substance, Qualifying Income, transfer-pricing compliance and the other requirements under the Corporate Tax regime must be considered.

VAT & Customs Need Separate Review

VAT and customs treatment depends on the transaction, goods movement and applicable UAE rules. “Free Zone” should never be treated as a blanket VAT or customs exemption.

For JAFZA traders, transaction mapping is essential. Where goods move between the Free Zone, mainland UAE and overseas markets, Corporate Tax, VAT and customs consequences should be reviewed around the actual supply chain.
